The Wassail

So this was something I was working on last year but my health took a turn and I wasn’t able to finish them. I know it’s not Wassailing season but who can’t resist a delicious and devilish little apple.

For those who are not familiar, Wassailing is a pagan folk tradition that dates back to the 8th Century, The local farmers and folk would perform a ritual ceremony that would involve cider poured onto the roots of apple trees and toasts placed in branches as offering.

A fire was lit to represent the return of the sun after winter, ensuring a bountiful autumn harvest. With the ceremony and offering’s they hoped to ward off evil spirits from the orchards and attract benevolent insects and birds (pollinators) to the trees. The good folk would drink, dance and be merry.

4 large 40g Apple soy wax melts with notes of orchard Cider, Honey, Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Clove . A birch tree stem, housed in an apple carton.
